We are approaching OUTniagara.ca with a request for research assistance. This would entail offering visitors of your website an opportunity to participate in a project that has been approved by the Brock University Research Ethics Board. We are interested in the possibility of advertising our research in the news section of your website. The advertisement we would like to provide you with will contain a short explanation of the research we are conducting, and contact information for any visitors who are interested in partaking in our research. Once contacted, each participant would receive a consent form, which allows the potential participant to find out more about the study and to indicate his or her interest in participating. Then, we would hand out questionnaire packages to any interested participants to complete. We would also assess the participants for various aspects of physical development (e.g., weight, facial dimensions, handedness).
Upon receipt of the questionnaire package, $20.00 will be presented or sent to the participant. Note that some organizations choose to have their honoraria donated to the organization itself or to a charity of the organization’s choice. Alternatively, (psychology) student participants can receive 1 hour of research participation credit.
The purpose of this study will be to investigate sexuality, physical development, and sexual orientation. Specifically, it will examine the relation, if any, between a person’s family background, physical development and his or her later sexual orientation as adults. It will also examine the relation, if any, between a person’s personality and social attitudes and his or her sexuality and physical development. We are recruiting men and women 18 years of age and older.
Please note that the questionnaire is a personality and sexuality questionnaire and participants are asked to respond to personal questions and that, as mentioned, the participant will be assessed for various physical characteristics. Under the guidelines of the Brock ethics board, however, the participant’s information will be kept in the strictest confidence by the researchers. This study has received ethics clearance from the Research Ethics Board (10-005) at Brock University (reb@brocku.ca or ext. 3035). Finally, note that, along with this letter, we are sending a copy of the consent form mentioned above.
If you are willing to assist us or have any questions or concerns, please contact Malvina Skorska at 905 688 5550 (x 4230) or via e-mail: ms10yp@brocku.ca.
