Q. Can you let us know which date is correct?

Your web site says the Winter Solstice Service will be on December 21, 2011 7:00 pm	to	9:00 pm

Niagara This Week says:- ST. CATHARINES -- A winter solstice service will be celebrated at the Unitarian Congregation of Niagara, 223 Church St., Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. The second annual event, while being held chiefly for the sexual- and gender-diverse community of Niagara, is also open to the broader community.

Just wondering for whom the Brock PRIDE meetings are planned. I have recently returned to the city this year and, as an alumnus, would like to connect with others who are part of the LGBT community. Perhaps we can lobby the Alumni association for support of Brock's current queer students if that isn't already a reality.

hhmmmm - I am of ambidextrous mind about this one. Stereotyping is not always good, but there is always a grain of truth behind a stereotype. Black sprinters ARE faster.... I like that this teacher is using these moments to get attention and build confidence in girls. My only fear is it might backfire - teenage girls do not want to be like lesbians. This is why many of them downplay their natural sport abilities, or even act dumb in class. Really interesting post.

First, thanks for your blog Martha! It is such an important blog for all! I love dialogue so please feel free to comment. In my opinion, the teacher is trying to incorporate strength and confidence in his/her student. However, the student is speaking about what is real for him/her at this point in their journey of life. What they are articulating is what is real for them now. It should not be criticized but an assertive criticism comment such as "if you would like to make a stronger point it might look like this........etc" would promote more confidence and further development of the students communication skills. To me, the student in question is articulating their reality and the teacher is evaluating throught their lense. To me there is no right or wrong. Massaging the students wording with them may help them develop their communication skills over time.
